Five years ago today, an amazing man, father, and husband left this world. Thinking of you today, Charley, and remembering, and missing--and celebrating our little girl and smiling too. We miss you.
Clockwise, from upper left:

- Charley in a weekly circuit race at Mt. Tabor Park, about 2 weeks before he died. Late June 2005.
- One of the last pictures of Charley alive, taken July 2, 2005. He died 10 days later. Anna was only 10 months old.
- Anna and me, immediately after Charley's funeral. July 16, 2005.
- Me signing the pole he crashed into at Portland International Raceway, at a dedication at the track one week after he died. July 19, 2005.
- Charley, the proud new daddy, with Anna after arriving home from the hospital. Early Sept. 2004.
Wow. My Julie was 6 months ago yesterday. I think Snickollet's "day" is the 11th, isn't it? (I'm pretty sure because I remember balling my eyes out reading her blog, because of that and my Julie's birthday was April 13th and her cancer was diagnosed April 10th. So that three-day period hit me like a ton of bricks.) I know another wonderful widow on Facebook whose late husband died on April 11 of this year. With 30-31 days in the month, why are we clustered so?

Congratulations for making it this far. Surviving the first five years has got to be the hardest, and now they are behind you. The next five will be easier.
ReplyDeletejust thinking of you and hoping that the anniversary is gentle on you. I'm sorry that Charley is gone.
